  1. thank you, pumax! glad you like it. :o well, i hope i can start on the hair in the next days. time is running out! :( but i am making (some slow) progress... took me ages to finally get the eyes right. such a struggle to build these materials, transparent material isn't that easy to handle. the waterline on the eye rim could be better, but for now i am satisfied. new eyes (straight zbrush render images, no edits): ...and some early beard testing (still heavy wip!):
  2. so much awesome stuff! i am impressed! your style is amazing. :)
  3. sooo, finally i open up my wip thread for my sculpt 3d rendering thingy here too. the forum user "RaVirr" posted his work on deviant art, that's how i found out about this contest and man, am i glad that he did, believe me! thanks again. it's like a dream come true to get the chance that people who are substantial to the art of the game actually inspect the works we throw in at the end. :) congrats to the max3d team for pulling this up and thanks for creating this contest! first of all, please excuse that i will write everything in english! i am from germany and I do not have sufficient command of the polish language... that's why google translater is always beside me, when i am visting these forums. ;) i always wanted to create fan art for the game because the last of us is currently my all-time-favorite! seriously, i already finished the game 3 times and i am curently on my 4th run... i was quite disappointed to have missed the official contest (that fireflies thing) a few months ago and was happy to get the chance to take part in another fan art contest related to the last of us, hosted by "itsartmag" a few weeks ago. but sadly i didn't manage to find myself on the winner's podium at the end. maybe you're interested in the stuff i did back then, i'll post the contest-entry under this text. just to make this clear, i won't chip this in as an entry for max3d, it's just for sharing. "A New Daddy": (at the time i finished this piece, I didn’t know anything about the game except for how the world from “The Last of Us” works and I watched the intro sequence on youtube. For wip shots, detail shots and more information you can visit my blog) since i contributed a 2D image for that "itsartmag" contest, i thought it's a good chance to get better in 3D for this one. the "a new daddy" piece was kinda too abstract i think and could have been more related to the main characters (i think it would have been better if i had already played the game before doing this image). anyways... :) i am doing a 3D sculpt of joel and this will be my second ZBrush bust ever, so it is really time consuming for me. i did another bust before, and two or three models for a mod, but i am really new to 3d and learn a lot while doing this one. a lot of trial and error, going back and forth etc.. since i only own zbrush i am going to render it in zbrush too, maybe some final photoshop tweaks at the end, have to see how things turn out later on. I started with this sculpt about two weeks ago, almost exactly after i finished the other piece. here are some milestones till where i am now: i want him to be not exactly like the in-game model, a bit more old and a bit more jaded maybe. but likeness should be present of course! ;) all wrinkles and dermal-details are hand-drawn, eyelashes and eyebrows fibermeshes (first time usage). now for the updated version (yes, he'll get hair and beard no worries! :D): i hope you guys like it so far, i will post progress when i have the time, for today i am glad that the transpose master thing worked - i used it for the first time, kinda tricky but so awesome... :D
  4. yeaaah! RAIN! awesome, slabiak! looks so good. at first i thought that the two guys on the left would be joel and ellie, since one of them clearly is holding a rifle and the other one seemed smaller and a bit more behind, but the way you did it now is just great!! looks good dude. :)
  5. hey sidre, thank you for the welcome and for the fast respond! :) i have to admit i understand those people... i'm curious myself, thats why i just had a look at all the (GREAT) wip stuff already posted and tried to give some feedback too. well then, time to start a thread too. and thanks for the good wishes, i think i'll need them. :D
  6. great studies and awesome final picked design! i love it. :) it's the place at the end right? where joel helps ellie up and they see tommys town in the back? haha, her horse is alive again, or is it another one? great that he finally sings for her, such a peaceful atmoshpere and warm colours! great job :)
  7. nice one, ravirr. but i think WWWoj is right, maybe the clear look of the first sketches worked a little bit better, but either way its a cool piece (haha, you get the pun). i love the car graveyard apect of it. reminds me of metro, you know that scene? -> http://st.gdefon.ru/wallpapers_original/wallpapers/275818_metro-2033_-gorod_-zima_-razruxa_3000x1770_%28www.GdeFon.ru%29.jpg oh and i have to thank you especially, dude! because of your posting on deviant art i found out about this contest. so thank you! :D
  8. great mood! like lighting and colours very much. the blurred image in the back is awesome, like its raining or something! really transports the atmposphere aof these borders from the game well!
  9. i like the first sketch very much! really shows the cohesion and trust already!
  10. i really like this one, nice touch that they are not obey the "go away!" banner. ;) love the colours here, really warm and inviting. i think the infected need some more polishing, also the ground in the very foreground. right now it looks like a cut out board, but i bet you will do that already. what i would also change is the contrast on the right. the line of houses there looks like it is on the same level with the main house, i would split these by adding fog or stronger light in that alley... maybe an infected head in the very left upper corner could also work? anyway, great piece so far! :)
  11. oh yes! nice moment, great lighting and perspective. also really good likeness, show me more! :D
  12. LOVE this sketch! beautiful lines, perspective, lighting and contrast. really like the cartoon look of it too. :)
  13. i like 4, 6 and 8 them most! :) 4 looks like in the woods and that they have to climb up, i like this one the most i think. :)
  14. i love that moment in the game, can't wait to see more! hope you get hard white contrasts for the snow. :)
  15. haha, great idea! reminds me of the map you can find... i love the dirt on the lens in front of the sun on that last drawing, the effect really looks like in the game. :)
  16. great atmosphere here! i really like how it seems way too quiet on the other side. ;) i would give the water and the walkway in the right corner more of detail, you have to look carefully how that light would react with the stuff underneath it. the water also needs reflection, especially when its such a calm surface. joel gets a gun or a rifle? looks like it... but his hand is a bit to small i think. i also think you could do more of the blue rim light on the characters and add some more depth in the shadows on them. that destroyed bridge beside ellies head, i don't know, but maybe there could be some searchlights mounted to it too, right now its very subtle. or you add just a spotlight coming from behind the trees and bushes beside that bridge, shining on the floor there, you could guide more, explain more and it would be more realistic too i think.
  17. looks really awesome so far! can't wait to see more of it! :)
  18. wow! what should i say? everything has already been said i am too late i guess. :D which one of the design ideas are you going to finish for the contest? they are all great! i love the architectural sketch, it's so cool to see these outlines transfer into an detailed drawing. the one underwater is also very cool! even if its just a rough sketch right now, i already can see it polished in my head... the third layout with the bird is a bit complicated i think, not technically - it's a good drawing, the problem here is more the composition and the realism. i totally agree with what the others already mentioned, but i would stick to one of the other ideas. they are stronger in my opinion. great entrys anyways, can't wait to see more from you ;)
  19. i really like the overall mood and that bright moonlight. its great how that door leading to the basement is truly appealing! what i would change is the foreground, the shrubs and trees there still look very flat - especially directly beside ellie. they could use some of that bright moonlight too. maybe a rim light. you could also just give the wall connected to the staircases a hard shadow and brighten up the meadow to give this part some more contrast. i would also change the two lower beams of that hole, right now they look a bit rubbery in my opinion. but overall its already working and i enjoy the peaceful scenery. :)
  20. hey there artur! love the composition and colours, you really guide the eye with that disposal here, especially the lighting. it's awesome how the corpse connects with the environment! love how the fungus softened the material and how joels arm is covering ellie - is he embracing her or does he warningly holding her back? great piece! :)
  21. hello max3d community! i am new to the forums and found out about you threw a posting on deviant art by "RaVirr" (thanks to you at this point :D). i really want to be a part of this contest, i think it is awesome that you guys managed to get the art-team from the game as the jury! that is truly a great opportunity to show of some work to the right people. so thanks for the max3d-team for realizing this event! i know i am late but maybe it is not too late yet. ;) i have some questions: i think it has been asked before, but just to be sure again, so that i don't mistake anything here -> is it allowed for me to do a 3d sculpt rendering as an contest entry (no 2d painting)? do i have to add the "the last of us fanart" branding to the finished image? it is okay to create a new thread for wip images if i like to do so, but it is not a requirement for the contest? edit: i am asking for the 3d thing mainly because this contest is listed under "galeria 2D". i am from germany and had to use google translator software to understand and read through this forum and the main page, while creating my profile i had the chance to switch the language to english, so that's some progress for me i guess - makes things a little bit more easy. i hope you guys get me right, since my english isn't that perfect. i'll translate this text via google again just to be sure, would be great if a mod could tell me if that's necessary for the future, of if english works too!
