create a mesh layer like a hill or something
create several objects
make the hill (or the layer you want to paint instances onto) the active layer
enter into mesh paint (duplicate tab)
check “instances” and then turn on random rotation and scaling.
make sure that “background items” are set to be the random objects painted. It’ll randomly choose BG objects and place them.
You can then paint on the mesh and instances will be applied.
You can also increase the density above 100% so that you can get a lot of instances with one or 2 clicks or brush strokes.
Think “Reformat” trash, debris, objects, etc…we can paint lotsa shit (bricks, clods, rocks, concrete) into our city scape. Also would have been cool for doing a 3D setup for the Apostle shot, so that I could have had a bunch of random shit instanced on the ground.
